I got to go to my Home Church this morning. It was great to see some of the folks that were praying for our team while we were at Outreach Week. It was also good to experience great Musical Worship and great teaching. I get those at Copperhill too but to quote the main character of the namesake for this blog, “There’s No Place Like Home.”
Any church you go to will have it’s positive and negative things. There are times where “the church” gets it right and Jesus is glorified. And there are times when “the church” gets it wrong, and forgets whose bride it is. I’ve discovered that over the years I’ve been at Journey that they have stayed faithful to the doctrine and tenants of the faith that matter most. Not the female ushers, not the hap-hazard way communion is done, not the 6+ months it takes to be baptized because one Pharisaical person says so, not the people that lead a ministry and yet have unrepentant sin and not the ministry that takes over the lobby during elections and tells you how horrible gay people are and how you should vote for a pro-life, anti-gay, conservative Republican even if he’s not the best candidate for the job and cheats on his wife. So what?
Journey Of Faith may have it’s scars and black eyes but is still a church that loves Jesus and unashamedly preaches and teaches the Word of God.
I may get frustrated from time to time with the things I see but that does not dissuade me from returning and being dedicated to the church and to the people.
